New York and Florida with children: cities, a camper and Miami Beach

New York, Orlando, a camper and Miami Beach: our November 2025 family trip had four different parts. We stayed at Placemakr Wall Street in New York and AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista, travelled through Florida by camper, then spent four nights in a Miami Beach apartment.

If you are considering a similar combination with children, decide which of those parts matters most to you. A city stay, park days and a camper journey each need their own time; putting them together adds a flight and a vehicle handover as well as the changes of accommodation.

New York: a city base before Florida

Placemakr Wall Street was our New York base. Our sightseeing plan grouped Downtown and Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, and the High Line with nearby neighbourhoods into different days.

That gives you a way to divide a city visit without starting with a long list of attractions. Choose one area for the day, then add the places your family wants to see there. You can keep museums, viewpoints and shows as choices rather than trying to fit every option into the same stay.

Orlando: arrival, then park days

Our Orlando plan set aside the arrival day after the flight from New York, followed by two park days: Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. We stayed at AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista; our hotel review covers that part of the trip.

If parks are your main reason for visiting, decide how many days you want there before fixing the rest of the Florida route. In this plan, three hotel nights leave two full days between arrival and departure.

Florida by camper

On 12 November, we were travelling by camper near Collier-Seminole State Park.

Collection day is worth treating as its own part of the journey. Our plan combined a train from Orlando to Miami with collecting the vehicle that afternoon. For a similar start, leave time for the handover and anything you need before driving to the first campsite.

Four nights in Miami Beach

We stayed in Miami Beach from 20 to 24 November. The apartment gave this final part of the trip one base, without another planned move before the flight home.

If you are combining a camper journey with a city stay, put the vehicle return and apartment check-in next to each other in your plan. Think through the bags and the journey between them as well as the dates. You can read about our final accommodation in the Miami Beach apartment notes.

For a shorter version, choose whether New York, the parks or the camper journey is the main event. Removing one whole part changes more than cutting a night from each place: it can also remove a flight or a vehicle handover.
